Michael P. Biggans, J.D/M.S, LPCClinical Psychotherapist

In my practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor and clinical psychotherapist, I specialize in helping adults transform the pain of depression, trauma, and anxiety into opportunities for growth and healing. I’m passionate about guiding individuals on a journey back to themselves, empowering them to break free from the past and create a more meaningful future

An Integrative Approach to Mental Wellness

My path to becoming a therapist has been anything but conventional. Before I answered a deeper calling to help others heal, I practiced as a trial attorney, defending the personal and civil rights of individuals. This experience, while seemingly disparate, instilled in me a profound understanding of human resilience and the systemic forces that can impact well-being.

Driven by a growing fascination with consciousness and the healing potential of entheogens, I embarked on a new chapter, earning my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Villanova University. My graduate studies and subsequent clinical training focused on the treatment of anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse populations, including veterans navigating PTSD, college students facing the pressures of academia, and individuals grappling with the lasting effects of trauma, dissociation, grief, and loss. I’ve also provided support for those seeking integration after psychedelic experiences and those exploring psycho-spiritual issues.

A Commitment to Holistic & Integrative Healing

My diverse background informs my approach to therapy, which is deeply integrative and rooted in the belief that true healing comes from within. While I am well-versed in various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT), Exposure Therapies, and Mindfulness and Self-Compassion-Based Therapies, I primarily operate from the framework of Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy.

Having both witnessed and experienced the profound impact of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, I’ve found it to be one of the most effective methods for helping individuals access their inner wisdom and heal the wounded parts of themselves that contribute to emotional suffering. I also integrate Mindfulness & Compassion-Based Exposure Therapy, rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to support clients struggling with severe anxiety, depression, and treatment-resistant conditions. This approach helps build psychological flexibility, reduce avoidance, and empower clients to live in deeper alignment with their values.

My interest in psychedelic-assisted therapy is rooted in a deep belief that, when used responsibly and within a skilled, supportive therapeutic framework, these medicines can unlock profound healing and personal transformation. My forthcoming book, The Psychedelic Self, delves into the powerful synergy between Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness & Self-Compassion-Based Exposure Therapy, and psychedelic-assisted treatment—especially when working with lower, psycholytic doses. These gentle yet effective doses can deepen inner exploration and emotional processing, particularly when integrated with IFS and ACT approaches, making them a promising tool for addressing complex trauma, anxiety, and treatment-resistant conditions.

Guiding You Back to Your Inner Balance

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my work is grounded in a deep commitment to helping adults navigate the complexities of depression, trauma, and anxiety-related challenges. I’m especially drawn to working with those who feel stuck—people who’ve tried other approaches and are still searching for lasting change.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply respectful of your inner experience. I create a space where you can safely explore the parts of you that hold pain, protect you from it, or simply feel lost in the noise of everyday life. I believe we all carry an innate healing intelligence—what IFS calls the Self—that, when accessed, can bring clarity, calm, and connection to even the most fragmented inner worlds.

You don’t need to be fixed—you need to be met, understood, and supported in reconnecting with the wisdom already inside you. That’s the work we’ll do together.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m deeply rooted in the joy of everyday experiences. You’ll often find me hiking with my two dogs, snowboarding in the Colorado mountains, exploring Denver’s food scene with my wife and friends, catching live music, or diving into  books and podcasts that fuel both personal and professional growth.
